Cleanstream Aerated Sewage System

The CleanStream domestic on-site Aerated Treatment System has been specifically designed for average family lifestyle properties. Developed in New Zealand and designed for New Zealand conditions, the CleanStream is a fast and efficient treatment system for all your household wastewater.  The unique technology design of CleanStream differs from other aerobic systems and has proven to be a successful advancement in secondary effluent treatment.  Many satisfied homeowners are experiencing the benefits of CleanStream.

The CleanStream system can easily be disguised to blend into your garden or landscape.  The system collects and converts wastewater into a valuable and reusable liquid fertiliser, ideal for irrigating permanent low maintenance gardens such as hedgerows, shelter belts, sub tropical plantings, native bush, orchards and lawns. Designed for use on all soil types, it is especially suitable for areas with poor drainage. So wherever you live, CIeanStream is the right choice not only for your family but also for the environment.

How it Works

    • The system receives household waste.
    • The waste then enters the six-chambered system designed to maximise both anaerobic and aerobic bacteria to break down the suspended solids of normal household waste (refer to diagram below).
    • The most defining difference when compared to most other similar systems is that the anaerobic/aerobic cycle is repeated a second time, before the settlement, clarification and final pump discharge.  This process takes approximately 5 days to turn wastewater into the final treated water stage.
    • The treated water is then pumped through drip lines to irrigate your garden, shelter trees or orchard.

  1. The Primary Septic Tank receives the domestic wastewater.  It acts like a septic tank and reduces BOD and suspended solids.  The sludge settles to the bottom and the scum floats to the top.  The "clear" effluent from mid depth passes through a mesh screen to the first aeration chamber.  This screen ensures that no foreign objects leave the Primary Septic Chamber and pass further into the system.
  2. In the First Aeration Tank, air is pumped into the water to oxygenate.  Oxygenated bacteria grow on the media which breakdown the Suspended Solids and reduced BOD.  Nitrogen is converted from Ammonia to Nitrate.
  3. The Second Anaerobic Tank receives aerated effluent from the first aeration chamber and removes the oxygen to create and anaerobic environment.  The sludge settles to the bottom and the scum floats to the top.  The "clear" effluent from mid depth passes through to the second aeration chamber.  Nitrate is converted to nitrogen gas.
  4. In the Second Aeration Tank, air is pumped into the water as in the first aerobic process.  This further reduces BOD, Suspended Solids and faecal coliforms and converts any remaining ammonia.
  5. The Settlement Tank receives aerated effluent and settles by gravity.  Concentrated sludge is returned to the First Septic Tank.  Floating skimmer returns floating scum to the aeration chamber.
  6. The disposal of treated effluent is dispersed through self-compensating drip irrigation.  Before entry into the irrigation line, the effluent is passed through 120micron Arkal Disc Filter.

Alarm System

The CleanStream System is monitored by a smart alarm located in the owner's home. If a fault occurs, the alarm will sound and the system of flashing lights will pinpoint the exact nature of the problem.

What to expect from your CleanStream System

1. Aesthetically one of the most inconspicuous systems on the market, your system will blend into the natural surroundings.

2. Dedicated service technicians will give you peace of mind for continued backup service.

3. Dedicated and experienced installers to advise you on all your requirements.

Technical Specifications

  • Manufactured from steel reinforced concrete (85mpa strength).
  • Six chamber multi-staged aerated system.
  • 10,500 litres total capacity, 8000 litres  treatment capacity, 2,500 litres emergency storage.
  • Unique 'wing' design eliminates cross contamination between chambers, while giving complete access to the system.
  • Cone top design eliminates the need for additional risers to achieve the necessary fall from the house.
  • Produces quality treated wastewater to distribute through pressure compensating drip line.
  • Evenly disperses the treated effluent directly to the soil and root zone ensuring maximum plant health and vitality.  The drip line is hidden under mulch or beneath the soil so it does not interfere with the landscape or scenery.  Completely flexible, the drip line can be shaped to fit any garden layout.

Treatment Performances

  • The Cleanstream process has been developed for average households of up to eight persons based on tank water supply with allowances of 140 litres per person per day.
  • Expected treatment for loadings up to 1,000 litres per day BOD5 Mg per Litre <15. Suspended Solids Mg per Litre <30. Nitrate Nitrogen Mg N per Litre <10. Loadings above 1,000 Litres per day require a specific design (Reference: Whangarei District Council Laboratory Report 14th March 2002).

Effluent Disposal

Disposal of treated effluent is dispersed through self compensating drip irrigation. Before entry into the irrigation line the effluent is passed through 120 micron Arkal Disc Filter. Area of disposal is site specific and requires individual calculations for efficient disposal.

Maintenance

A six monthly maintenance agreement must be in place for the efficient performance of the Cleanstream process. The Cleanstream System is monitored by a smart alarm situated in the owner's home. If a fault occurs the alarm will sound and a light will pinpoint the exact nature of the problem.
